Katja Herbers is a daughter of Vera Beths who plays the violin, and Werner Herbers on oboe. Growing up she spent time in America along with her mother's tours with chamber music ensemble L'Archibudelli. She was introduced to theater by her mother, cellist Anner Brylsma, and father Leonie P olak. While growing up she had an au pair who was from Canada. Her mother taught her Dutch German English. Herbers attended The Ignatius Gymnasium located in Amsterdam. She finished her psychology studies at the Amsterdam University. In the course of her studies in psychology, she was a student at the theatre college De Trap. After that, she relocated from Amsterdam to New York and went to the HB Studio.
